Call for Papers
Second Annual
Social Justice in a Changing World
Undergraduate and Graduate Student Conference

The Sociological Society and Department of Sociology at Roosevelt University invite undergraduate and graduate students to the second annual Social Justice in a Changing World Conference. We seek to foster discussion on both the nature of challenges confronting local and global communities as well as possible solutions that can be pursued or are already being advanced by social justice movements.
Possible topics can include, but are not limited to:
* Economic development and globalization * Environmental issues
* Poverty and income inequality * Culture and the media
* Public policy, social services and the welfare state * The economic crisis
* Labor markets and unionization * Childcare and domestic violence
* Affordable housing, public housing, and gentrification * Education inequalities and policy
* The prison-industrial complex and the war on drugs * The immigrant experience and reform
* Human rights and civil society * Healthcare reform and reproduction rights
* The wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Palestine * Local and global social justice movements
Each panel will last one and a half hours. Presenters should plan on speaking no longer than 15 minutes each in order to allow for a question and answer period following the presentations.
Submission Requirements:
* Paper Title, institutional affiliation, and contact information (preferred email address) for all authors
* An abstract summarizing your presentation (up to 200 words)
* Preferred panel topics
* AV equipment request (if needed)
Proposal Deadline:
Proposals for paper presentations are due by 5:00pm Friday, March 26, 2010. All papers must be submitted online at SJCWconference@rusociologicalsociety.org. Online proposal submission opens February 1, 2010. You will be notified if your paper was accepted/rejected by April 2.

Submit forms to: SJCWconference@rusociologicalsociety.org. Please register for the conference by April 15. Lunch is on your own. There will be a catered reception following the Keynote Panel.
